These terms are the agreement between you and McBean Builders LLC ("we", "us") for the use of mcbeanbuilders.com. Using the site means you accept them. They are written to be read, not to be impressive.
McBean Builders is exam practice. You get practice questions for the California contractor licence exams, each with a written explanation of why the correct answer is correct and why the tempting wrong one is tempting, plus a record of what you have answered.
What it is not. We are not the Contractors State License Board, and we are not affiliated with, endorsed by, or approved by the CSLB or any government body. Nothing here is legal advice.
We cannot promise you will pass. The questions are practice for the real exam, not the real exam, and passing depends on you. Nobody who sells exam prep can honestly promise a result, and we do not.
We offer two monthly plans: Law & Business at $29.99 a month, and Law & Business plus your trade exam at $59.99 a month. Prices are in US dollars and exclude any tax that applies where you are.
There is a 7-day free trial. You are not charged during the trial. If you do not cancel before it ends, your first month is charged automatically, and then your subscription renews automatically every month until you cancel. Each renewal charges the plan price above to the payment method you gave us.
We will tell you before any price change, and you will have the chance to cancel before it takes effect.
You can cancel at any time, online, in a couple of taps — go to your account page and use the billing link. You never have to phone or email us to cancel.
When you cancel you keep access until the end of the period you have already paid for, and you are not charged again. Cancelling during the free trial means you are never charged at all.
Our refund policy is part of these terms. It is short and it is on its own page: Refunds.
The question bank and the explanations are the product. You may use them to study. You may not:
If you do any of these we may suspend or close your account. Where we close an account for this reason we will refund any unused part of the current month.
The explanations, the study material, the site and the McBean Builders name are ours. You get a personal, non-transferable right to use them while you subscribe, and nothing more. The underlying exam subject matter — California law, building codes and trade practice — belongs to nobody and we claim no rights over it.
We try to keep the service running and correct, but we do not promise it will be uninterrupted or error-free. We may change or improve it, and we may retire parts of it. If we discontinue the service entirely we will refund any unused part of the current month.
We work hard on accuracy, and the material is checked. Even so, exam content and the law both change, and mistakes are possible. The material is study practice and you should not rely on it as a statement of current law or code. If you spot something wrong, tell us and we will look at it.
To the extent the law allows: the service is provided as it is, and we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, including failing an exam, losing work, or losing income. Our total liability to you is limited to the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim. Nothing here limits liability that cannot legally be limited.
You may stop using the service and cancel at any time. We may suspend or end an account that breaks these terms, or where we are required to. The sections on ownership, liability and governing law carry on after the agreement ends.
We may update these terms. If a change matters to you — price, renewal, cancellation or your rights — we will tell you by email before it takes effect, and continuing to use the service after that means you accept the new terms. The date at the top always says when they last changed.
These terms are governed by the law of the State of California, and any dispute belongs in the state or federal courts of California.
